EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND ACADEMIC FOUNDATION 🎓

Kyung-Mee Moon holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biotechnology from the University of British Columbia (2009). Prior to this, she completed a Diploma of Technology in Biotechnology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2007. Her robust educational background laid a solid foundation for her career in biotechnology, equipping her with extensive knowledge and practical skills in the field.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN RESEARCH AND LAB MANAGEMENT 🔬

Since September 2009, Moon has been a Research Technician at Dr. Leonard Foster's Laboratory at the University of British Columbia's Michael Smith Laboratories. In this role, she trains new lab members, manages day-to-day lab operations, and analyzes collaborator samples using mass spectrometry instruments. Her expertise and dedication ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory, contributing significantly to ongoing research projects.

EARLY CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY 🔧

Moon's career began with diverse roles that honed her technical proficiency. From May 2008 to April 2009, she worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the Proteomics Core Facility, UBC Center for High-Throughput Biology, where she processed samples, created invoices, and documented lab procedures. Prior to this, she served as a Laboratory Analyst/Microbiologist at ALS Environmental in Vancouver, gaining valuable experience in environmental biotechnology.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIGH-THROUGHPUT BIOLOGY AND WEB MIGRATION 💻

In May 2009, Moon undertook a website migration project at the UBC Center for High-Throughput Biology. She successfully migrated old website content to a new platform, trained faculty members on site maintenance, and created detailed instructional documents. This project showcased her versatility and ability to manage technological transitions efficiently.

VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT AND SAFETY LEADERSHIP 🤝

Beyond her professional roles, Moon has been actively involved in volunteer activities. Since 2017, she has been a member of the departmental safety team, overseeing annual inspections. She also volunteered at the MSL High School Student Conference in 2009 and participated in Student Biotechnology Network events from 2006 to 2008. These engagements reflect her commitment to community involvement and safety leadership.

TEACHING AND MENTORSHIP ROLES 📚

Moon has a strong passion for teaching and mentorship. In 2011, she served as a Teaching Assistant for a four-day graduate course at UBC, where she shared her knowledge and expertise with students.
